Built in 1961 by the NZFS as a standard S70 6-bunk design with an open fire, it is located 0.5km below (at-the-time), the nearby Canterbury Mountaineering Club (CMC) hut of the same name; until 1977/78 when the CMC hut burnt down. The NZFS hut was used by government hunters until 1972. The original open fire was replaced by a wood burner in 2001 and the single glazed windows replaced with aluminium framed ones. Edit Hut
