Built by the NZFS in 1960. It was painted rescue orange in 2014 & an open fire was reinstated in June, 2016. It is one of only two S70 type huts in the Tararua Forest Park that are fully representative of the deer culling huts built by the NZ Forest Service. It is now maintained by the ex NZFS group. Not an easy job to get there, you have to cross six streams and each of them is down in creek and it will really suck out your power. 4 km took me almost 3 hours.
