Notes
Built by Jack Baine during 1929 & 1930 to replace an earlier hut. John (Jack) Alexander Baine (1901-1984) was a tramper in the ÅŒrongorongo valley from the 1920's onwards. It is a private hut belonging to the Baine family but open to the public. It is located on the north side of Matthews Stream. It is still maintained as an open hut by the Baine family. Edit Hut

They only private hut open to public in the valley. Easy to find just at the intersection of the Mathews and Orongorongo rivers. I spent the night there and it was really appreciated. Hut with a lot of character. Thank you to the Baine family to let it open to public.
