Notes
Built in March, 2022, this is the fourth of four huts in the vicinity. It was the former Belltown Manunui Hut No. 3, which was broken-down & relocated following a geotech assessment highlighting it had been built on an old slip from the 1929 earthquake, resulting in large sink holes opening up under the foundations, including one, over 3m deep under a third of the hut. Over 5 weeks under the Kaimaihi for Nature programme, Tim Marshall's team from Ultimate Descents, broke the hut down & relocated it onto a new building platform, near the Lawrence Stream confluence. They extended the veranda & guttering, installed a wastewater system, tank & tank stand, ceiling & wall insulation, re-clad the interior & exterior, & re-roofed the hut, including new flashings throughout.
