Built in the early 1960s. The swing bridge (shown on some maps) upstream of the hut across the Ngaruroro River was removed by DOC in February, 2013, as it crossed to private land. January, 2021, saw the hut exterior painted by 4 volunteers. Edit Hut

Nice hut next to the river. Went in via the Smith Russell track (4,5h) and out by the river (2,5h). 14 easy crossings at low flow. Knees deep to Mid thighs. From the carpark the first crossing is the one with the strongest current and the second is the deepest. If you can manage the 2 first crossings then you will be all good.
