Built in 1979 by the NZFS for Landcare Research for Camp creek from 1977 to 2000. In 2006, Landcare passed the hut on to DOC for public use. It has a bath tub outside which can be filled & heated by a fire underneath. Edit Hut

As of 29/1/24 the slip approximately 2km has a great and easy to follow workaround, as does the slip at roughly 3.7km - just follow the big orange triangles. It was a sunny day and the water level wasn't an issue.

Hut has a very inefficient bunk layout and there is a fair amount of covered room in the entry "lobby" to chuck a sleeping mat down if you have one and the hut is busy
