Built in June, 1958 by the NZFS. It was retrofitted with two sleeping benches in Nov., 1974. Designated for removal in DOC's 2004 review but shortly after, volunteers flew in to repaint it & wire its piles down. Mar., 2019 saw a rebuild of the biv by permolat members, They replaced the sub floor, framing, & rotten bits of flooring, & put the old roof frame atop, before reattaching the the iron cladding with hex-head screws. The cladding was rust-proofed, primed & painted & a concrete step poured. Waitangi weekend, 2025, saw James Morris & Anna Pilbrow install a short aluminium gutter at the bottom edge of the wall cladding & a 20L water container with tap. They scraped, wire brushed & primed the roof & SW wall cladding, prepped & painted the door red, re-fixed the door flashing. Edit Hut
The hardest biv we've bagged so far - perhaps because we climbed up out of Julia Creek, traversed the Campbell Range then bashed through burnt and regenerating scrub to get here! What a cutie of a biv 🥰
