Mid October, 2018, saw two volunteers complete some maintenance, including removal of the cracked wood burner, water tank interior clean, light decking work & clearing of trees. Mid February, 2021, saw local 'Sika Foundation' members Aaron Brebner, Alex Giesen, Anton Stokman, Ron Lenzen & Mike Main fully refurbish the hut, including a re-roof, re-clad, re-line, window detail, new ceiling sarking, new deck, an additional; sky light added, a woodshed build from the old roofing iron, & the interior painted. June, 2023, Hinemaiaia Tk was cleared of windfalls. January, 2024, the track in the clearing next to the Tauranga-Taupo River has been cleared. Edit Hut

Track via the Kaipo river is fairly overgrown starting from the Te Iringa swingbridge south of pt. 951 when coming from Oamaru. Plenty of campsites along the way. Easier to stick with the river most of the way!

Really nice hut. The Hinemaiai track from Clements Roadend is relatively easy going. Don't miss the cascade 100m upstream the Tauranga-Taupo River. Clements Road Mill Road is in gravel for around 20km but was ok with a 2WD
