Notes
Likely built by the IAD in 1954, when the first power lines were installed in the Wairau valley. It is two ‘single man’s quarters’ bolted together, each half mirroring the other. The NZFS used it at their Dip Flat cullers training facility & it was relocated to it's present site after the facility closed. During 2020, 15 volunteers, led by Bob Chittenden & builder Bill Gilbertson, overhauled the hut. They replaced the open fire with a wood burner, built new bunks, replaced 3 windows, relined the interior, installed a second stainless-steel bench, extended the concrete entrance pad, built a free-standing woodshed, replaced the lead-head nails with tec screws, shifted the toilet, replaced the weather board exterior with corrugated iron, & painted the exterior. It was NZFS hut #496. Edit Hut
