As per NZFS documents, it was originally called Kensington Hut. Built in 1971, it was one of the last NZFS S70 six-bunk designs built in Westland. In 2003, DOC repainted it & installed a new water tank. In 2018, Geoff Spearpoint added a door flashing, a proper door handle to supplement the bolt, & did some weatherproofing repairs around the door sill. Over 8 days in March, 2021, the hut was extensively overhauled by Permolat volunteers, led by Geoff. They replaced the ridge capping, flashings, roofing iron, the lead head nails with screws, the skylight, the 4 corner piles, & the exterior repainted. The toilet was re-levelled, re-roofed & painted, the interior linings cleaned & painted, & the access tracks trimmed & remarked. The wooden heli-pad was removed around 2015. Edit Hut
