Notes
Built by the NZFS, Max Cole & co. in November, 1960. It was one of 14 6-bunk S70 type Forest Service huts in Tararua Forest Park. A locked NZFS biv ('Cow Creek Bivvy') was next to the hut for many years. The biv was used as a food / gear locker for cullers, before being removed in the 1980’s & re-purposed in 1998 as 'Jacs Biv'. 'Cow Creek Hut' was repainted ‘Rescue Orange’ by volunteers in April, 2021. At some point, the open fire was replaced with a wood burner. Recently cleaned through "love our huts" volunteers. - Toilet very full, not so nice. Warm and lovely swimming hole.
