Built by the NZFS in the 1960's as a S70 6-bunk design with an open fire. The hut was repainted, the louvre windows replaced with aluminium ones and the open fire replaced with a wood burner at some point. Edit Hut
Track very popular and in great condition. Easy walk from the road end. Didn't get to see inside the hut as there were others in there. Popular with dog walkers too. Lots of water and shade along the route, and evidence that there's plenty of goats around. Great intro to tramping and staying in huts for younger family members I'd say
