Notes
Built in 2006 & opened on 18 March, 2006, as a replacement for 'Elder Biv', which sat on the south side of the highpoint named Elder. It is named after Wellington-born school teacher, tramper, pipe-smoker & World War One veteran, Norman Elder (1896-1974). Norman was a member of the Tararua TC, founding member of the Heretaunga TC, FMC President & a search & rescue volunteer. Norman was a prolific writer, most notably of botanical papers. After retiring as a school teacher in 1954, Norman went on to become a part time teacher in the NZFS. Repainted by exNZFS volunteers in Feb., 2021. Edit Hut
