Built in 1958 by George Boyd & another young fella who fell ill on the job. Note the bunks are canvas but there is at least one mattress. There is mint growing by the stream. Extensively renovated by Craig Benbow in May, 2019, including new chicken wire, building paper, perspex window, nails replaced with hex-head screws & the exterior painted Rescue Orange. Access across pastoral lease land. Permission required. Contact APNP visitor centre, Ph. 03-318-9211. Edit Hut
Now has two DOC mattresses, one for the bed, the other for the floor. The fireplace has been blocked up to stop birds from getting trapped. Very low ceiling, it's definitely crawl in through the half-height door. Now has building wrap roof underlay and three walls.
