Built by the NZFS in the early 1960’s as a 4-bunk S81 design, with an open fire. 1971 saw the chimney replaced, a cowling added & the hearth renewed. At some point, it was lined, had a cupboard removed & a roof-fed water tank added. March, 2004, saw DOC reseal & repaint it, repair the roof & replace the water tank. Mid February, 2017, saw Permolat volunteers led by Alastair Macdonald, repile, repaint & re-roof it. They built a woodshed & dug some drains around the hut. Early July, 2021, Jane Morris led a crew who recut the Miserable Ridge & Fraser Peak tops tracks from Douglas Saddle, creating great high-level circuits over Miserable Ridge to Rapid Cree, & over the Bald Hill Range to the Totara Valley. They also installed a new fire surround & finished off some internal ply work. Edit Hut
