Notes
Built by the NZFS in 1972 to replace an older biv that had blown off its piles lower down Gerhardt Spur. A small tarn nearby supplies water & there is cell phone reception from the ridge above the biv. In 2013, DOC repainted the roof, door & window sills, & they shifted the end bunk to the side, parallel with the other bunk. The lack of toileting is a problem with the big increase in visitation. DOC have left a shovel there as a measure. Early May, 2024, saw DOC Hokitika replace the roof, piles & tie downs. Waitangi weekend, 2025, saw Jordy Searle & co. extensively trim the track from the biv down to just east of pt. 867m. The remainder of the track down to Diedrichs Creek is good. Edit Hut
