Built in 2007 & opened in May, 2008, by former DOC director general Hugh Logan. It replaces an older lockwood design hut that burnt down in June, 2005, see ‘Hawdon Hut (old)’. The hut has a radio that is connected to the Arthurs Pass Visitor Centre. Edit Hut

Great hut for kids to walk to. About 9.5 kilometres to walk to the hut. The car park at the start had 10 or more cars but only two other groups totalling 9 people at the hut.

Clean and spacious. Two separate bedrooms. No running water inside hut, the tap is outside.
