Notes
The third of four 'Heaphy' huts to have been built in the vicinity. It was built in 1968 by the NZFS in a clearing slightly west of the second hut. In 1974 the bunks were removed & sleeping platforms installed to increase the hut's capacity. The hut was still being used in Sept. 2012, while the newer fourth version of Heaphy Hut was being constructed (see photo) but it was demolished once the fourth hut had opened. Heaphy Hut is named after Charles Heaphy. This was a 'Great Walks' hut & in it's latter years needed to be booked in advance. Edit Hut
