Built by the NZFS in 1962. The hut was extended sometime between 1987 & 1991. DOC built a veranda, installed new windows and replaced the open fire with a woodburner in 1995. Bruce Reay reports a Mr Waters died of a heart attack near the creek that now bears his name near the hut. John Reid flew in to retrieve the body, landing on the flat, hence the hut name. November, 2019, saw Bill Barnett & co. installed two new windows in the wall at the bunk end of the hut & the interior was painted. Edit Hut
