Built in 1971 by Brian Ahern, Graeme Champness, Ciaran Keogh & Peter Wardle. Prior to the hut being built, folks used the nearby rock biv. Ciaran Keogh reports the hut was built from Totara from dead standing logs that were scattered across the Waiho River flats. He reports the Totara was donated by a Franz Josef farmer & the hut was built as a set of single prefab panels that were flown-in & bolted together onsite. Ciaran reports the hut was erected in a single day & they slept in it the first night. See the photos. It was clad in flat iron in the early 1980's. Edit Hut
