Built in 1956-57, it was the original flat-iron 4-bunker, designed by Snow Corboy, during the IAD days. This was NZFS hut #405. NZFS's Jock Fisher, recalls his first visit to the hut "It was just after it was built, & it was known as 'Top Matiri Hut'. I spent the night there in a howling gale, & the hut rattled & shook, so I changed its name to 'Hurricane Hutch', which has been altered over time to Hurricane Hut". Some old maps refer to it as 'Matiri Head Hut'. Edit Hut
