The summer of 2023-24, saw the hut renovated with the lead removed from the roof & a team of three got most of the painting done on the original cladding. Some maps simply refer to this as 'No. 3 Hut' while others refer to it as 'Hurunui No. 3 Hut'. The open fire was removed in 1996 & replaced by the wood burner. This is the only hut left from the original three built in the 1930's on the eastern side of the Harper Pass route. It is managed as an historic hut by DOC. Edit Hut
