The third of three huts on this site, it was named after Lord John Jellicoe. The second was an ex NZFS hut on conservation land that was accidentally burnt down in the 1990's but quickly replaced by members of the Rakaia NZDA. In 2014, post tenure review, a small section of public land, including Jellicoe Hut was surveyed off & became part of Manuka Point Station. The hut sits very close to (but outside) the Rakaia Forest Conservation Area boundary according to WAMS. Permission to visit is required from the station.
