Built in 1987/88 by members of the Heretaunga Tramping Club (HTC) who own the hut. It replaced the original 1947 beech pole & malthoid hut. It's construction began with working parties at Eddie Holmes' shed. Prefabricated materials were flown to the site by DOC & over 3 weekends, the hut was built at a cost of $6000; met by the club with donations from the Hastings & Napier Deerstalkers, Forest & Bird, & past HTC members. DOC paid for the veranda. It was officially opened over the weekend of 30-31 Jan., 1988. Early HTC members, John von Dadelzen, Peter Lattey, Nancy Tanner & June Budd were flown in to join the celebrations, alongside 75-80 club members who tramped in. On the Sunday members demolished the old hut, a very sad occasion after 46 years of giving shelter to many people. Edit Hut
