Built in 1979, it was unusual due to its steep gabled roof. It is a result of when the NZFS was experimenting with larger huts for recreational purposes. It was extensively renovated by DOC in 1992, including a gas heater, which has since been replaced by a wood burner. Early March, 2025, saw the roof, cladding, & fire replaced, & the hut repainted.
