Notes
Named after Swiss guide Jakob Lauper, who in 1863 crossed the main divide with John Henry Whitcombe. The open fire on the end of the biv has been removed. It is sometimes spelt Louper. In March, 1978, the biv was painted by NZFS's, Alasdair Meek & Chris Jenkins. Early November, 2024, saw Governers Bay Volunteer Firefighters members, Matt Annand, John Abbott & Shane Edwards replace the roof, barge flashings & painted the exterior. Edit Hut

Water a wee distance away but plenty of billies in the hut. Lovely new thick, dark blue mattresses. Thanks DoC!
