Built by the NZFS in the 1960's as a S70 6-bunk design with an open fire. It was repainted in February, 2013, with the help of volunteers. Due to the growing popularity of the Te Araroa Trail, March, 2023, saw DOC Motueka remove the fire & prepare the ground in front of the hut for a deck. Early April, 2023, saw a Jobs for Nature team, completely overhaul the hut. They increased the hut capacity from 6 to 8 bunks, re-roofed the hut, replaced the open fire with a new woodburner, installed 4 new windows, painted the exterior, & relocated the door to the front of the hut so it opens onto a newly-built covered deck.
