Notes
Built in 1971 by the NZFS as a standerd NZFS S70 6-bunker, it is lined & has an open fire. There is a rudimentary woodshed. It was painted & had some minor repairs done by DOC in 2003. In 2019, DOC replaced three piles, the roof clearlight sheet & some of the inner roof ply. The leadhead nails in the roof were replaced with tech screws & a hole patched in the door alcove. 4 new mattresses were brought in & the other 2 cleaned. The toilet was shifted also. Edit Hut

In here in winter 1998 for three nights while it poured continuously and the Waitaha raged below. We ate all our food and didn't get further up river. Track from Kiwi flat was just epic and scary back then. Slips everywhere, and lots of exposed scrambling and scrabbling.
