Built by the NZFS in 1962 to replace an IAD hut [see 'Mungo Hut (old)]. In 2004, DOC repainted & resealed the exterior, replaced some of the framing & floorboards, repaired the chimney & re-concreted the fireplace. Extensively renovated in Dec., 2015, by a volunteer team, led by Rob Brown. They replaced rotten framing, two piles, building paper, the skylight & ridge capping. A new flashing was installed over the eastern window, the interior lined, the cavities vented to avoid moisture build-up & the cupboard rebuilt. The centre rafter, bunks & some purlins were strengthened. The galv. cladding was resealed, screwed & repainted. The doorstep was excavated & the toilet painted. A woodshed was constructed, & the helipad & access tracks down to the river recut. Edit Hut
