Built in 1977 at the head of the Muchison Glacier on the lower northeast ridge of Mt Cooper to replace 'Murchison Hut (old)', which was at a site where the foundation rock was deemed geologically unstable. In 2006, the hut had extensive work done but was closed permanently in August, 2017, due to geological instability. Since this time, the hut has been rendered unusable & will be removed. It was owned by the NZAC & it had a radio. Edit Hut
