This was originally Spurs Hut when the area was farmed. Following tenure review it was returned to the Crown & the hut was renamed North Ophua Hut. In more recent times DOC has extensively refurbished the hut, including a small deck out front. Only the stone chimney remains from the original 1896 built 'Spurs Hut' & DOC have incorporated this into the refurbished hut. Edit Hut
Really nice historical hut (built in 1896) in good condition with a nice modern fireplace. A lot of dead trees at less then 200m away in the riverbed. From the carpark the track is sometimes buggy for the first half and really good on the second half as it joins an old farm track. The toilet is made to survive a nuke attack.
