Built in the 1960's by Harrison Holloway of Cairnmuir Station, it is a former musterers' hut & it is the third hut on the site. It is located 20m inside the Old Woman Range Conservation Area, on the boundary with the Kopuwai Conservation Area. March, 2025, saw Backcountry Trust volunteers reline the hut interior. Edit Hut
I first visited in 1996 when we went there ski-touring. The coal range has been replaced by a lovely woodburner. Unfortunately the 2 north-facing windows are currently covered in particle boards which is a recent development and hopefully will be replaced with something transparent. 4WDing yobboes visit the hut and it has a few repaired holes.
