Originally built in the 1970s by the Marine Dept as a base for scientific research (see 'Port Adventure Research Hut'). In 1984 it was dismantled & Lands & Survey staff floated it on pontoons from Flounder Bay to its current site. Both rooms were subsequently floored, closed-in & the entranceway recessed. The external door was the one that previously gave access to the bunkroom from the garage. From 2001 it has been owned, maintained & managed by volunteers from the Rakiura Hunter Camp Trust. It has been re-wrapped, re-clad, re-roofed, new aluminium windows fitted, the interior painted, a Wagner Sparky fire installed & a fibreglass toilet installed. Bookings are required. Edit Hut
