Built in 1970 by Mario Geremia & Warren Kealey in 7-days. It is maintained by Permolat volunteers, led by Geoff Spearpoint. In early Nov., 2015, Geoff, Hugh van Noorden & Peter Fullerton, completed some long overdue major maintenance, including structural repairs, painting, chimney straightening, concrete pouring, roof repairs, vegetation clearance & they built a woodshed. In early 2016, they completed further structural repairs, & they painted the chimney, woodshed & toilet, & hut interior. Early Sept., 2022, saw a DOC crew from Haast clear the heli pad & cut back the encroaching vegetation, close to the original NZFS line. Late Feb., 2025, saw Geoff Spearpoint & Andrew Buglass recut & mark the old NZFS track from the Haast River to the mid flats, & from the top flats to the hut.
