Built by the NZFS's, Jock Fisher & co. in 1956/57, with all the materials airdropped by Cessna aircraft with wing racks. Jock flew with the pilot to ensure the loads were dropped on the site he had chosen. The hut is named after NZ's 13th Prime Minister, Sir Robert Stout. In March, 2018, over 3-days Permolat volunteers did some work on the hut. This work included clearing an extensive area of vegetation & a new pile, sky-light, ridge capping, & they also painted the hut in Dulux Porangahau (a close looking Rescue Orange colour), in a return to the huts colour of the 1970's.
