Built in 1970 by Mick Riordan, Danny Mullen, Leo Smith & Harry Mullen, with NZFS approval. It was removed sometime after January, 1997, due to earthquake fears. It was located on the south eastern shore of Lake Stanley. It was replaced in 2016 with a tent camp, named 'Soper Shelter' to honour Frank Soper & his late wife, Berna, who were founding members of the Golden Bay Alpine Tramping Club. Edit Hut
Stayed in this hut for 2 weeks after being flown in by the NZFS to cull goats in the surrounding mountains in the mid 80"s.
Basic, but dry. A welcome sight after a days walking.
