Built in 1949 & with the kitchen extension added in 1951. It was originally a musterers' hut & shearers' quarters when the area was farmed by the Sutherland brothers, Ross and Ian. Painted by volunteers in Feb., 2021. Early September, 2024, saw the hut refurbished, including replacing the open fire with a log burner & rebuilding the sleeping platforms. Edit Hut
When I visited on 03 September 2024 there was a large crew refurbishing the hut, including removing the open fire and replacing with a log-burner, plus rebuilding sleeping platforms.
This is a rough hut. One of the beds is broken and you cant sleep on it so it actually only sleeps six. There is a massive hole over the fire which means the heat escapes and does not really heat the hut. This was a very cold night where is was glad to have my winter sleeping bag.
