The first of two Syme huts. 'Syme Hut' is named after local mountain climbing pioneer & founder of the Mt Egmont Alpine Club, Rod Syme (1900-1994). It was built by Mt Egmont Alpine Club & it was opened 6 April, 1930, by Mr W. Armit (Chair of the Egmont National Park Board). From December, 1967, to January, 1968, the Conway family completed major repairs to the hut. It was an orange corrugated hut that collapsed during the 1990's & was removed in 1997. It was replaced by 'Syme Hut' & this old hut has been reassembled as an historic display in the Dawson Falls Visitor Centre. Edit Hut
