Built in November, 1964, by Farley Hoy, Herb Riehana, Dick Clapham & Darryll Steele of the NZFS as a standard S70 6-bunk design. It was NZFS hut #931. The hut was fully modified in the summer of 2002/03. DOC replaced the wood burner in May, 2024. Late Feb., 2025, saw Back Country Trust volunteers, led by Mike Hawthorne, replace the roof, ceiling ply, purlins, ridge beam & flashings, shift the toilet, install a water tank & tank stand, build a woodshed, varnish the floor & fully repaint the interior. Nice view, nice hut. Doc changed the fireplace in May 2024. I came from Omarukokere Biv via pt 1247-1450. From the biv, I crossed the Ngaruroro River (thigh-deep) then made my way to Te Puke Hut (4h at a good pace). There's a steep rocky section (15 m high) around 1100 meters. The next day, I linked Te Puke to Mangatainoka Hut via the tops and the river (4 hours).
