Built in 1891. It is the oldest surviving building in any New Zealand national park & is a registered Category 1 building with the Historic Places Trust. It was built from salvaged materials from the former military barracks on Marsden Hill in New Plymouth. Edit Hut

Had the hut to ourselves. Has 5 bunk rooms. Bunk room 5 with 2 bunks is accessed via outside. Was allowed to move to one of the internally accessed rooms.
