An ex-musterer's hut, built in 1958 by Mt Arrowsmith Station. With the establishment of Hakatere CP, DOC have taken over management of the hut, refurbishing it. It's canvas bunks have been replaced with slats & DOC-style mattresses. It has a concrete floor & the walls are lined with a reflective material. It has a lovely big table. Late October, 2023, saw NZDA Ashburton branch volunteers replace the ridge capping & suntuff clear light. Edit Hut

Note the alert from DOC refers to another Top Hut in Ahuriri not this one in Hakatere

One of the best built and preserved musterers huts around. By the way, new canvas bunks have been fitted although they do have the DOC plastic coated mattresses as well.
