A NZFS hut built in 1962, it was shifted across the river by DOC, & renovated in November, 2011 (see 'Top Timaru Hut (old)'. As part of the renovation, DOC, increased the sleeping capacity from four to six bunks, added insulation, added double-glazed windows, & added a covered porch area to the front. Edit Hut

Great defence against sandflies. The Timaru river is very silty; a better water option is the creek opposite the hut just a few metres upriver.
