Built in 1960, this is a NZFS S81, four-bunk design that once had an open fire attached. Peter Robins recalls visiting in 1965 to replace the rusting fireplace. At a later point in time, the open fire was removed. The bunks are netting on wooden frames with mattresses, & the hut is lined, with a narrow skylight. DOC repainted the hut in 2003 & dug a drain across the grass area in front of the door. In 2015, Permolat volunteers replaced rotting piles, bearers, framing & the skylight. They securely reattached the flat iron walls using tec-screws. In April, 2017, the Permolat volunteers returned & they re-roofed & painted the hut. Edit Hut
