In 1951, Max White was appointed as a Park Ranger for the ATNP & he pushed for the opening up of the inland areas. A programme of track making & the establishment of huts begun. Wainui Hut was built in 1958 with the prefabricated hut being taken in by helicopter. Edit Hut

Awesome rustic hut in a beautiful clearing, also very accessible. Surprised to see the aviary wasn't there anymore :(
