The 'Public Works Department' began work on the hut in late 1911 & it was finally completed in December, 1913. It originally had an open fire, later replaced with a wood burner. The hut was upgraded in the 1970's by the Dept of L & S. It was partially destroyed by a wall of water roaring down the Copland River in 1986. It was replaced with a bigger hut which had only been completed 2 weeks earlier. The newer hut has also been affected by mud-slides. Edit Hut
