Named after biologist, H. B. (Baughn) Wisely, it is in the Murchison Mountains 'specially protected area'. It is a bio-diversity hut used by DOC staff & contractors for Takahe work, & access to the area is by permit only. The hut was flown in by Dominie aircraft & built in 1961 by the Fiordland NP Board. It was originally a 2-bunk biv, but extended in 1976, & at some point, a small addition was made to the north elevation, however this was later removed, alongside the fireplace, chimney & range. In more recent years, the fire has been replaced. Edit Hut
