Owned by the Canterbury Mountaineering Club (CMC), it was built by members in 1937. It sits atop Agony Island & there is a cleared track from a cairn at the bottom. This is an emergency shelter if the rivers are high, cutting off access to 'St Winifred Hut'. It is not derelict as some maps suggest. The CMC renovated the biv in February, 2015. The biv is named after Eric Harper who in 1908, alongside Jim Dennistoun, explored a new pass to Westland. It had a wood stove at one point, but this has been removed. Edit Hut
