Built in 1986 for $8800 by Gavin Cederman to replace an older hut. It was opened by Ken Shirley, an MP for Tasman on 1 Dec., 1986. The opening of the hut featured in a newspaper article in the Nelson Evening Mail, where people reportedly questioned the then hut fee of $7 per adult per night. As of 2023, it’s considerably more.
