DOC repaired the internal walls and repainted inside the hut in early April 2024.

Visited today, unfortunately had had some vandalism,holes in the walls. Someone had written that it had been reported to DOC. 5 min walk from the carpark.

Sweet little spot. When we visited it was clean and tidy with all 6 mattresses present. Was a nice warm night but I imagine it’s pretty chilly without a fire sometimes!

When I visited, all six new mattresses had been stolen. In my experience proximity to the road and access with outboard motors e.g. Lake Rotoroa, supports destructive behaviour

For a hut so close to a road end, this is in really good shape.

It's a pity DOC removed the open fire from this hut! It is now a much less appealing place to visit in winter than it once was. There was plenty of dead veg firewood around. Now people light open fires outside the hut creating a fire hazard in summer.
