It has 6 bunks and the category of Standard Hut.Built in 1950 at the site of a former mining camp, this was NZFS hut #493. It was on the true right & marginally further upstream of 'Belltown Manunui Hut No. 3', which replaced 'Little Wanganui Hut' (Belltown Hut No. 2). Early on, the open fire of 'Belltown Hut No. 1' was shifted from the gable-end to the side, with the hut removed by the NZFS in 1983. It was replaced 400m upstream on the true left near Speciman Creek in 1981, by 'Little Wanganui Hut' (Belltown Hut No. 2), which was later damaged by storms & removed in 1995-96, with DOC replacing it in 2001 by 'Belltown Manunui Hut No. 3'. This was decommissioned & replaced in March, 2022, by 'Belltown Manunui Hut No. 4'.Location:

There have been a lot more than three huts in this vicinity. There was once a cluster of prospectors huts in this area hence the name Belltown. A number of years back when Drain Creek flooded/changed course debris from some early huts was exposed. I carried out one antique bottle that was exposed and reburied others near the current Belltown Hut.
